Get the TV ready for all-day use

Five TV settings that keep a sign on all day and stop the edges of your designs being cut off.

Consumer TVs are built to save power and switch themselves off. A few settings make them behave like a proper sign. The names vary by brand; look in the TV's Picture, General or Eco settings.

  1. Turn off energy saving, eco mode, auto power off, sleep timers and "no signal" power off. Otherwise the TV may switch itself off after a few hours.
  2. Set the picture size to fit ("Screen Fit", "Just Scan", "Fit to screen" or "Full pixel"), so the edges of your designs aren't cut off. See Edges cut off, black bars or a sideways picture.
  3. Turn on HDMI-CEC (Samsung Anynet+, LG SIMPLINK, Sony Bravia Sync), so the player can wake the TV and switch to its input.
  4. Plug the TV and the player into the same power strip, so both come back together after a power cut.
  5. Use a network cable where you can. On Wi-Fi, keep the router close. Once content has downloaded, screens keep playing even if the internet drops.

Portrait screens

Mounting a TV on its side? Leave the TV and player in their normal landscape setting and set the orientation in SignBlink instead, on the screen's Settings tab. SignBlink turns the picture for you. See Screen settings.
