Edges cut off, black bars or a sideways picture

Fix designs that don't fit the TV — overscan, the wrong orientation, or content of a different shape.

The edges are cut off

Most TVs zoom the picture slightly by default ("overscan"). Turn it off in the TV's picture settings: look for Picture size, Aspect ratio or Screen fit and choose Screen Fit, Just Scan, Fit to screen, Full pixel or 1:1. On a Raspberry Pi or Windows PC, also check the computer isn't set to a "zoomed" display scale.

The picture is sideways or upside down

Set the orientation only in SignBlink: open the screen, go to Settings → Orientation, and choose how the TV is mounted. Leave the TV and the player in their normal landscape setting. If the player is also rotated, the two rotations cancel out or double up.

Black bars around a photo or video

The content is a different shape from the screen, like a phone photo on a landscape TV. In the playlist, change the item from Fit to Fill to cover the screen (trimming the edges), or use a design made for the screen's shape. See Playlists.

A design shows with bands

The design is a different shape from the screen, such as a landscape design on a portrait screen. Make a design in the matching orientation; the designer's Screen shape setting controls it. See Designer basics.

Everything looks small or blurry

Check the player's display resolution is 1920 × 1080 (or the TV's native resolution) and not something smaller.
