Publishing — getting changes onto your screens
How drafts work, how to publish, and how you know each TV really has your update.
Everything you change in SignBlink — playlists, designs, schedules, screen settings — is saved as a draft first. Your TVs keep showing what they have until you publish. That way nobody in the shop sees a half-finished menu.
How to publish
You'll find a Publish button wherever you make changes:
- On a screen's page: Publish changes sends everything waiting for that screen.
- On a playlist: publishes the screens that play it.
- In the designer: saves the design and publishes the screens that show it.
- On a group, to publish all of its screens at once.
A dialog lists your screens, with the ones your change affects already chosen. Use All screens, Has changes or Up to date to change the choice quickly. Screens you don't pick keep showing what they have now. Then choose Publish changes.
Watching it arrive
Each screen downloads everything first, then switches over and confirms. You'll see Receiving update while files download, then Online with your new content once the TV has it. If a screen is offline, it gets the update as soon as it reconnects.
"Nothing changed on this screen"
When you publish a design, SignBlink checks that each screen actually plays it. If a screen plays a different playlist, the dialog says so and offers to fix it: Add it to "Main menu" and publish, or Play it here and publish. This catches the most common surprise: editing something the screen doesn't show.
What doesn't need publishing
These go live straight away:
- Emergency alerts.
- Quick posts (they publish for you). See Quick posts.
- The Right now volume and mute controls on a screen's Sound tab.
- Menus that read from a Google Sheet (within about two minutes).
- Lining up a video wall.
